Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was Truly, Truly Scrumptious from start to finish

Venture into the enchanting world of Chitty Chitty Bang, where the beloved flying car takes centre stage in a heartwarming and magical musical adaptation of the iconic family film. Directed by the talented Thom Southerland and featuring the musical direction of Jessica Viner, this production promises a joyful and entertaining experience for audiences of all ages.

At the heart of the story is the eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, portrayed with charm and gusto by the multitalented Adam Garcia. Alongside his children Jeremy and Jemima, played by a talented young cast, Potts sets out to restore an old race car, only to discover its extraordinary magical abilities. The stage comes alive with the car's fantastical feats as it floats and takes flight, captivating the audience with its wonder.

As the Potts family discovers the magical abilities of the car, trouble brews when the villainous Baron Bomburst, brought to life with villainous flair by Martin Callaghan, sets his sights on claiming the enchanted vehicle for himself. The family unites with the delightful Truly Scrumptious, portrayed with grace and elegance by Ellie Nunn, and the endearing Grandpa Potts, skillfully played by Liam Fox, to outwit the Baron and Baroness, portrayed with wicked charm by Jenny Gayner, and their sinister henchman, the Child Catcher, impeccably brought to life by Charlie Brooks.

A standout moment in the production is the captivating performances from the cast, with Adam Garcia's live stage presence being a highlight for fans who have admired his work on film and television. Liam Fox's portrayal of Grandpa Potts showcases his range as an actor, with his transformation drawing the audience further into the narrative. Charlie Brooks's portrayal of the traditionally male role of the Child Catcher breathes new life into the character, capturing the essence of villainy with precision and skill.

The chemistry and comic timing between the actors create moments of genuine laughter for the audience, particularly in the interactions between Martin Callaghan and Jenny Gayner as the Baron and Baroness, and Adam Stafford and Michael Joseph as the humorous spies Boris and Goran. The ensemble cast, including the talented child stars, delivered polished performances both visually and vocally, enhancing the overall spectacle of the show with seamless choreography that elevates the production.

Filled with delightful stage effects and unforgettable musical numbers, including the Academy Award-nominated title song, Chitty Chitty Bang is a delightful and entertaining production that promises a high-flying adventure for families. The magic of the story, combined with the stellar performances and infectious energy of the cast, make this musical a must-see for theatre enthusiasts of all ages.
