Derry Girls Set To Return For Third Series

Screenwriter Lisa McGee revealed the news of a third season just as the second came to a close and fans are delighted.
After the beautiful season 2 finale we just weren't ready to let go of the wee eejits who found their way to our screens and hearts last year. It's the most popular show from Northern Ireland since records began in 2002 and for good reason. We just can't get enough of Erin, Orla, Clare, Michelle and James, the wee english fella.
Seeing the endless great reviews it's easy to see why this show is still going strong.
The Telegraph describes the finale as "a terrific sign-off for a moving and uproariously funny show".
The Irish Times says it was "a moving and significant piece of nostalgia".
The comedy, set during the Troubles in the 1990s brings a more fun, lighthearted look to a dark point in history by focusing on how these teens are still just that...teens. They still get drunk and do stupid things and go to school and have boy troubles and the bad things going on around them are just the backdrop for that. It's a fun, nostalgic look into Northern Irish culture that anyone can appreciate whether you grew up here or not.
The recent finale saw the entire cast scrambling to get a look at President Bill Clinton while James was faced with a surprise visit which lead to a difficult decision to be made and the emotional ending could bring a tear to any eye with Michelle's beautiful speech and James proudly shouting "I AM A DERRY GIRL!"
Lisa McGee said: "I love writing this show and I'm so thrilled to be able to continue the Derry Girls story, thank you Channel 4, Erin and the eejits live to fight another day!" and fans old and new are excited to find out what this crew does next.
