EVITA – EPIC AS F**K
I’m certainly no culture vulture, but I fell in love with the musical Evita back in the 90’s when the movie featuring Madonna was released. I remember being instantly hooked on the instantly recognisable classics such as Don’t Cry for me Argentina. So when I heard the stage production was coming to the Grand Opera House in Belfast I was like a child at Christmas.
Evita tells us the story of Eva Peron, the illegitimate daughter of a middle-class father, she was raised in humble beginnings but through her marriage to Argentine dictator Juan Peron she achieved iconic status and extraordinary wealth.
You’ll find yourself mouthing along to more songs than you think you’ll know, apart from Don’t Cry for Me, you’ll recognise Another Suitcase in Another Hall, You Must Love Me, and High Flying Adored. Lucy O’Byrne plays Eva and belts out each number with the emotion and drama needed to carry off this iconic roll.
Evita is running in the Grand Opera House until Saturday 11th August 18.
