The Script toast St Patrick's Day with 8,000 fans in Brussels!

The Script celebrated St Patrick’s Day in style this year! The band marked the occasion with a sold out show at Brussels’ Forest National and asked every fan present in the 8,000 capacity venue to join them in toasting St Patrick’s Day. Earlier on in the week, the band hatched a plan to buy a drink for all 8,000 fans and crew present at the show, making it the biggest round ever bought.

Tokens were given to every fan on arrival to be exchanged for a drink of their choice. As the Irish three-piece were set to start Paint The Town Green, their third song of the night, the band invited everyone to raise their glasses for St Patrick’s Day.

The Belgian date was part of The Script’s Freedom Child world tour and saw O’Donoghue back to full health, after battling bronchitis earlier in the week. Keen to give their loyal fans a night and a St Patrick’s Day to remember, the gesture delighted fans and created an electric atmosphere at the show. Looking set to be the biggest round ever bought, fans are calling for it to be added to the record books.

The Script said “Who better to buy the biggest round of drinks in history than us lot”!

As well as their celebrations on the day, The Script also marked St Patrick’s Day with the release of a very special version of Crazy World featuring Christy Dignam. The song was recorded live during the second night of their sold out run at Dublin’s 3Arena when the band were joined on stage by Christy for a surprise duet. The performance can be viewed on youtube here. This track is the first teaser of their forthcoming acoustic EP which will be released in the coming weeks.

The Script have been surprising those attending each night of the Freedom Child tour. The tour has included guest performances, pizza for fans on National Pizza Day and pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. The band have opened their shows on an intimate b-stage and also performed a selection of their songs acoustically from amongst the crowd. As well as Christy, The Script have also welcomed other artists to their stage including the Parrs Wood High School Choir and buskers Shay and Chris (in honour of Random Act Of Kindness day).

The Script released their latest album Freedom Child back in September. The record sees the band presenting a collection of urgent, timely, future-facing anthems that speak of both real-life events and real-time sonic adventurism. The album was recorded between London and Los Angeles and can be listened to on Spotify here.

The Script are one of the world’s most successful bands and have sold over 29 million records. The Irish three-piece have scored x3 multi-platinum albums, all of which were #1 in the UK. The Script have also picked up a huge following in the USA where they have x4 platinum selling singles under their belt. The Script are also one of the biggest live bands, having sold over 1.5 million tickets across over 250 headline shows and they sold out the legendary Croke Park stadium in their hometown in a matter of minutes.
