The Guncles Bring the Kids to Funtasia

I was given the enviable task of bringing the kids to Funtasia Waterpark in Drogheda which sounds far to travel but is really only 1 hour 30mins away from Belfast once you get onto the open road of the motorway. En route myself, my partner and the kids played eye-spy which wasn't the least bit thrilling, but when we pulled into the car park of Funtasia the tone changed from eye spy with my little eye to screams of excitement, followed by look at that and look at this when we went into the building.

This purpose built place has everything any young family with children under 16 would want, waterpark, indoor soft play area, crazy golf, bowling and even wall and sky climbing for the more adventurous. Once we collected our tickets it was off to the waterpark changing rooms for us, which are kitted out with family changing rooms, whole body air dryer, showers and lockers. We got our best swimming gear on, a quick shower and it was straight into the water for us, there were thrills galore between waterflumes, water guns and my personal favourites the Boomerang and Superbowl. One of the funniest highlights of our day with a difference for me was the moment the giant pirates head that hovers over the entire water play area emptied its contents over my nephew much to his shock and displeasure, thankfully he was easily appeased by getting to go on the water walkers and all was good in the world again....just in time for us to get washed and dried off before tucking into our fast food using our vouchers, it was chicken strips, burgers and chips for all at what was very reasonably price for a place like this.

With both adults exhausted from the waterpark we let the kids go into the soft play area to burn off any remaining energy they had while we recharged over 2 cups of coffee in the seated area for parents to supervise their kids. They were running, jumping, sliding and screaming with laughter and fun, one thing was fast becoming guaranteed they were going to sleep well tonight! It was then over to bowling using our final 2 tickets that us adults hadn't used, this was exactly what you would expect from a bowling ally, lane, music, shoes and screens, it was a great way to finish off an amazing experience for the children which we polished off with an ice cream on our way out.

All in all this place has everything all under one roof so you don't have to plan your trip around good weather, the kids are safe and burn off their energy and it really isn't that expensive considering we spent more or less the whole day there for our group of 4 it only cost €95. For me the fact that the kids slept sound that night right through to the next day it was worth every penny!
