The Sinn Féin councilor has been tipped as one of the candidates to take the second most senior civic role in Belfast.

Mary Ellen Campbell is apparently in the running for the position, regardless of the Sinn Féin party refusing to comment on the rumors. She has been at the forefront of multiple fights for equality in NI including gender equality, LGBT issues and suicide prevention since she was co-opted on to the Council in 2010.
A source close to Sinn Féin has tipped the Belfast Media Group off and say her announcement could be as soon as a few days.
The announcement is expected to be made during a LGBT six county hustings event being held in the Duncairn Centre for Culture and Arts.
