EUROVISION WINNER FROM EAST BELFAST GIVES FIRST HOME TOWN PERFORMANCE IN MANY YEARS

Although Northern Ireland has never entered the Eurovision Song Contest in it's own right it has somewhat of a cult following especially as 3 of Ireland's winners have connections here. Ireland still has the record for the most wins which all began with Dana from Derry, Linda Martin who came 2nd in 1984 and won in 1992 hails from East Belfast & Niamh Kavanagh who has resided in Carrickfergus for many years.

This years Eurovision NI Awards takes place in Crumlin Road Gaol on October 5th and will see Linda Martin perform her first homecoming gig in many years. The extravaganza in it's fourth year has its own delegation of judges who choose the best and worst of all things Eurovision in several categories.

Last year the high point was the acceptance speech from Conchita Wurst, the bearded drag queen who won in 2014 with "Rise Like A Phoenix”

Organiser and Eurovision enthusiast Nicky McElhatton said “The awards give fans of the contest a chance to get a taste of the Eurovision experience, we are so excited this year to have Eurovision legend Linda Martin join us and its a rare opportunity to see her perform in her home city"
